Tree Removal in Buffalo

Big, small, leaning, or long gone. Taken down safely, piece by piece.

A climber works the crown while the ground crew tends the lowering rope below

Most trees we remove don't fall. They come down in pieces, in order, each one on a rope. A climber goes up, works the crown down limb by limb, and the ground crew lowers every piece into a clear zone, unclips it, and drags it to the pile. On a tight lot with a fence, a garden, and a service line, that is the whole job: control.

When removal is the right call

  • The tree is dead or mostly dead. Dead wood is brittle, and it only gets more dangerous the longer it stands.
  • A storm split the trunk or tore out a leader, and what's left can't be saved with pruning.
  • It's leaning at a house, garage, or driveway, and the lean is new.
  • The roots are heaving the driveway, the sewer line keeps clogging, or the tree simply outgrew the lot it was planted on fifty years ago.
  • It's an ash. The emerald ash borer killed most of the ash in Erie County, and standing dead ash sheds limbs without warning.

Not sure it needs to go? Say so. Plenty of trees people assume are done can be saved with a hard prune, and we'd rather tell you that at the estimate than sell you a removal.

How it works in a real yard

We look at the tree, the targets under it, and the access. If there's room, some limbs get dropped free into a clear zone. When there isn't, and in most Buffalo yards there isn't, everything gets rigged: a rope on the piece, a cut, a controlled ride down. The trunk comes down last, in rounds. Nothing lands where it wasn't sent.

What happens to the wood

Limbs go through the chipper. Trunk wood gets hauled unless you want it. If you have a stove, we'll cut the rounds to stove length and stack them where you say. Chips are free if you want them for beds. The stump stays unless you add stump grinding, and most people do while the crew is already there.

What moves the price

  • Size and height, and how much of the crown overhangs things that matter.
  • Access. A backyard tree behind a narrow gate takes longer than a front-yard tree beside the driveway.
  • Condition. Dead trees are slower and more careful work than live ones.
  • What you want left: hauled clean, or wood stacked and chips dropped.

You get the number in writing after a free look, and the number is the price. No fuel surprise, no cleanup line item that appears at the end. When the last load leaves, the lawn gets raked, and then you walk it before you pay.

Before the crew shows up

A removal goes faster and safer when the yard is ready. Move the cars out of the driveway and off the street in front, because that is where the chipper and the truck live for the day. Unlock the gate. Bring the dog inside and keep the kids in the house until the last piece is on the ground; a lowering rope under load is not something to walk under. If a neighbor's yard is under the crown, tell them the night before. We'll talk to them too, but it lands better coming from you.

Point out what we can't see. Sprinkler heads in the drop zone, a septic lid, buried dog-fence wire, the good hosta bed by the fence. We plan the lowering around what you show us, and a thirty-second walk at the start of the day saves a lot of apology at the end.

Then it runs like this. The climber goes up, the ground crew clears a landing zone and sets the ropes, and the tree comes down from the top in the order the rigging allows. Most single trees are a one-day job. Big ones, or two or three in the same yard, run into a second day, and you'll know that from the estimate, not from the truck pulling out at dusk.

What you won't see from us: limbs dropped free onto the lawn to save time, a truck backed across a soft yard, a climber without a helmet, or a ragged stump left high because the last cut got rushed. Slow and tidy is the only way this work gets done right.
